Por regla
general, los estudiantes conocen el uso de la contracción negativa WON'T
(will not) de una manera básica o simple. Ejemplo: I won't buy a
new car this year (No compraré un auto nuevo este año). Ese uso se
denomina determination (determinación).
Sin embargo, algo que muchos estudiantes desconocen (o les confunde cuando lo
leen o escuchan) es el WON'T utilizado de un modo que no es precisamente
futuro y que – por diferente – complica la traducción al español.
Esta función de WON'T suele usarse sólo con terceras personas o cosas (he,
she, it) cuando nos quejamos de que alguien o algo "se niega a hacer
algo".
